Privacy policy
This policy covers securevinstatus.com, operated by SecureVinStatus. It explains what the site collects and who else receives data when you use it.
What we do not collect
There are no accounts on this site. We do not ask for your name, address, phone number or payment details, and there is no form to submit them through. We never collect or store vehicle identification numbers. If you enter a VIN somewhere after following a link from here, you are on another company's site and their policy applies, not ours.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which guides get read. It sets cookies and receives your IP address, approximate location, device and browser type, and the pages you view. We use it in aggregate; we do not try to identify individual visitors and we do not sell or share this data. Google's handling of it is governed by its own privacy policy.
Affiliate links
Links to report providers and to Amazon are tracked by those companies' affiliate networks, so that a purchase can be attributed to this site. When you click one, the network typically sets a cookie and records the referral. We see only aggregate counts of clicks and commissions. We never receive your name, your payment details or what you bought as an individual.
If you write to us, we keep the message and your address for as long as needed to deal with it. We do not add you to a mailing list and there is no newsletter.
Hosting and logs
The site is served as static files by our hosting provider, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses, for security and operational purposes.
Cookies you can refuse
Nothing on this site needs cookies to work. Blocking them in your browser, or using a tracking blocker, costs you no functionality. The analytics and affiliate cookies described above are the only ones set.
Children
This site is written for adults buying vehicles and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
Your requests
To ask what we hold about you, or to ask us to delete it, write to contact@securevinstatus.com. Because we operate no accounts and collect no identifiers of our own, in most cases the honest answer is that we hold nothing tied to you beyond any email you sent us. For analytics data held by Google, or referral data held by an affiliate network, you will need to approach those companies directly.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
