An independent publication about what a used vehicle's record does and does not tell you.
SecureVinStatus publishes guides about vehicle records in the United States: title brands, odometer history, accident and airbag data, lien status, recalls, and what factory coverage is left on a used car. Everything here is written for private buyers, not for dealers or trade.
What this site is not
We do not run VIN searches, we do not hold vehicle data, and we are not an Approved NMVTIS Data Provider. When a question can only be answered by a paid report, we say which providers sell one and where each of them gets its data. We have no way to look up your vehicle for you.
We also do not inspect, repair, appraise or sell cars, and nothing on this site is a mechanical opinion about a specific vehicle.
Who writes it
Michael Z. Reid edits the site. Michael Z. Reid checks what a vehicle record can and cannot tell you, traces each claim back to the agency or database that publishes it, and writes up what is left. He does not inspect or sell cars.
How it pays for itself
Some links to report services and inspection tools earn a commission. It costs you nothing extra and it does not decide what gets recommended. The full terms are on our affiliate disclosure page, and the standards each guide has to meet are set out in how we check things.
